Commodore Island Mysteries

book cover, middle grade novel, mystery, golden retriever puppies, maritime island

On their evening walk along the shore, Jenny and her dad discover a litter of brand new Golden Retriever puppies, abandoned in a large culvert, with no trace of the momma dog or how they got there. Worried that the puppies won’t be able to survive without their momma, Jenny and her two best friends, Molly and Lora, set out to solve the mystery of the orphaned pups.

With a little hardscrabble sleuthing and bravery beyond their years, will the three friends find the momma dog in time to save the little ones? Does the mysteriously placed culvert have anything to do with an international gang trying to disrupt communities throughout the region? Will they prove to themselves and their parents that they are more than capable of dealing with serious, real-world problems? Or will they stay kids, forever playing make believe?

In the first installment of the Commodore Island Mysteries, Jenny, Molly and Lora find themselves catapulted into an adult-size mystery—one that will forever change them and their small-town on the island. As the girls work the case, they just might prove they are becoming young adults after all...whether they’re ready to or not."

Jenny's acquaintance, Brinsly, is forced to do something she doesn’t want to do—vandalize a picture of the Mona Lisa that hangs in the library at their school by smearing paint across her face.

It’s not just any paint, it’s military-grade, designed to coat submarines. Why would that be important? And it’s not just any painting, it’s La Gioconda Torlonia. On loan from a wealthy donor, it is believed to be a potentially valuable, early version of the Mona Lisa, painted by Leonardo DaVinci himself! Jenny has reason to believe Brinsly may be involved and tries to reach out to her. Brinsly declines the help—she is dealing with more urgent trouble at home. But when the bully targets Jenny, she, Molly and Lora are forced into action. Why does the bully think he can push girls around? Was it just a random act of vandalism that the bully forced Brinsly to commit? Will they have the courage and the maturity to face down the grown-up leading the villainy?

In the second installment of the Commodore Island Mysteries, our protagonists find themselves caught up in a fast-paced adventure with the fate of a valuable painting—and their friend's future—caught in the balance. They prove, once again, that growing up—like solving mysteries—is far from easy, but the right set of friends make it an incredible adventure.

Jenny and her new friend, Brinsly, watch with amazement as a two-thousand-passenger ferry plows straight into the rocky shore of Commodore Island. Sirens blaring, ferry workers fall to the car deck and passengers tightly cling to the rails on the decks above as the ferry screeches to a halt.

In the ensuing chaos, they see an acquaintance from school on the upper deck, red-headed Terrence. He sees them and, in a panic, runs back inside. Then they see another man slide down the evacuation chute into the shallow water and run into the woods. They learn from Jenny’s mom that the nephew of one of her coworkers is missing–Terrence! Why didn’t he try to get their attention? Who was the man that jumped ship? Could these strange behaviors have anything to do with why the sabotaged ferry? How far beyond the shores of Commodore do the misdeeds go?

The third installment of the Commodore Island Mysteries is action packed, with our sleuths facing some serious grown-up situations and some serious grownups. Brinsly definitively shows us what that moment looks like when a young person fully asserts themselves as an adult for the first time. Careful here, because just when you think it's safe to go back in the water…
